Romeo & Zooliet
The Event:
Romeo & Zooliet is a family-friendly, comedic retelling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet with a wild twist. Featuring stunning animal puppetry created by the renowned Michael Curry Design—celebrated for its work on Broadway’s The Lion King and Frozen, as well as Olympic and Super Bowl ceremonies—the production brings to life the award-winning graphic novel The Stratford Zoo Midnight Revue Presents Romeo and Juliet by Ian Lendler and Zack Giallongo.
Originally created in partnership with the St. Louis Zoo in 2025, Romeo & Zooliet returns for another wild season in 2026. This time, the animals are making their way to Forest Park’s Shakespeare Glen!
What We Did:
Blank Slate partnered with the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival and the St. Louis Zoo to bring Romeo & Zooliet to life in an ambitious outdoor production. Blank Slate oversaw the complete production operation, managing the load-in, construction, setup, breakdown, and load-out of the complex outdoor stage while hiring and coordinating staff throughout the process. From navigating the unique challenges of an outdoor environment to sourcing materials designed to withstand the elements and resolving on-site issues, Blank Slate helped ensure a seamless and successful production.
The Outcome:
Tens of thousands flocked to Forest Park’s Shakespeare Glen for another smash-hit season, bringing the St. Louis community together for two FREE, state-of-the-art productions. The successful season offered audiences of all ages the opportunity to experience high-quality live entertainment in one of the city’s most iconic outdoor settings.
Romeo & Zooliet returned to Forest Park for a second year, continuing to bring innovative puppetry, comedy, and live theater to audiences of all ages—completely FREE.
